In Vattenfall’s purchasing department, most invoices are automatically categorized into a category. However, about 25% is not categorized properly or not at all into the correct purchasing category. 

Challenge
Manually assigning thousands of individual invoices per week is too labour-intensive. The lack of the right insight leads to greater purchasing inefficiencies. How can we efficiently classify 25% of invoices?

Solution

Categorize thousands of maverick invoices

Together with the customer we solved the problem by developing an extraction & classification pipeline. Which can classify fully automated invoices into one of the 500 supplier categories. In the end, the invoice model managed to categorize the correct category in 85% of the cases. With full category visibility, this organization was able to implement better procurement strategies and save 5% on total business expenses.
